Considering Numbers

A big consideration to make when choosing a location is how many guests you’ll be having at the event. If you want a big wedding, you have to realize not only the need for a venue that can accommodate your guest numbers, but the increased amount of travel and resources that will be used up with extra guests.

We personally are looking to keep our wedding small. Even before considering a green wedding, I felt that I’d like an intimate affair, with close friends and family only, kind of the way my parents did it from what I understand. I’m the type of person that is much more comfortable with forgoing the big to-do wedding and John seems to be cool with whatever I’m cool with, which makes things much easier on me.

Aside from my personal preference, I feel even more happy about my choice to keep the guest list down because I realize it will cut out a lot of impacts to the environment that would be incurred by upping the guest list. I realize that not everyone will feel the way I do about a “small” (I use quotes because John’s family is pretty darn big, as is mine) guest list, and I’m not advocating it as something you the wedding planner should desire yourself. But if you can cut back on your guest numbers, keep in mind that that’s one great way to reduce your matrimonial eco-impact.
