Favors

green_bow.jpgGoing to weddings is always a learning experience for me, ever since I became engaged. It always makes me picture what I want for my own wedding (which surprisingly I never did before I got engaged), perhaps because I don’t have a great imagination, so it’s easier to learn through the experiences.

Anyhow, I just went to my cousin Sue’s wedding this past weekend which, by the way, was REALLY nice. One aspect that really stuck out and impressed me, and which (sorry Sue and Brian), I may be borrowing in order to do a good deed and simultaneously green my own wedding, was their wedding favors, or a lack thereof. On the gift table as well as on our little seating cards, there was a note about how, in lieu of wedding favors, Sue and Brian donated to a charity. I thought that was truly an awesome idea. I mean, not only are you doing a good deed, but you’re forgoing favors that are usually things people don’t really use and might not even hold on to.

All of the favors I’ve ever received I personally have hung on to, but even then, I have no real place to keep them. Generally I hold on to the invitations and put them in a scrapbook for memory’s sake, but for most favors that’s not easy to do so they just end up getting stored away in drawers and I feel bad about that. Plus, obviously having favors means added consumption, which is exactly what I’m trying to cut back on. Hence, the idea of donating to a charity is the PERFECT substitute, I believe.

I’m sure there are many types of eco-friendly favors one could give out too. I’m going to keep an eye out for these types of favors and ideas and be sure to post them as well, even though I’ve decided on my own favor substitute. Just check up on the “”Favors” category every once in a while for more ideas!
